The Sustainable City describes itself on its website as:
A working model for
future cities
Buggies are used to get around. They had an area full of restaurants and at least one supermarket. There was a small visitor centre in this area which showed a model of the whole Sustainability city. Here’s a sample.
There was a school along with grass pitch, as well as a masjid (mosque). There was also an sustainability centre which looked very funky on the inside.
At the centre, they had a very green area which included an animal sanctuary and a small pets park. The sanctuary had a pond with ducks, lots of chickens, a peacock, three to four goats and two donkeys.
[You cannot see the animals because I do not photography living beings. Plants don’t count, sorry.]
You are allowed to feed the animals. Here was some advice on what to feed the ducks:
The best thing about the sanctuary was the bossy little chickens (and ducks) who follow you around demanding their food! Alhamdulillah, there was a Zoom supermarket 2 minutes away where you can buy some lettuce for them. You can buy other fresh produce there as well like carrots.
Is that all there is, one might ask? Well, no. There are two more things here which I was not able to visit. Sustainable City Equestrian Club and the Beekeepers Association, which has workshops on bee keeping.
I’m planning to go visit these two places when I go back to feed the chickens, in shaa Allah.
Do I recommend this place? Well, to animal lovers and folks who are into climate change and sustainability, yes.
